Often confusing to both travelers and the local population as they dubbed oriental and occidental as the same and only one Mindoro. Both provinces has towering mountain ranges covered with virgin forest, breathtakingly beautiful powdery white beaches, cascading waterfalls, snorkeling and scuba diving galore…all these can be found in both provinces of Mindoro. In spite of being close to the country’s capital, Oriental Mindoro is considered to be one of the unspoiled places…a place that would give a nature lover her or his heart’s desire… that of a nature derived entertainment.
The government together with the hospitable Mindoreños invites tourists, travelers as well as investors to experience the serene atmosphere and breathtaking beauty of this place that is dubbed as the “Golden Island”. Mindoro was founded by a group of Spanish mission on February 2, 1921. During the early years, the Spanish administer Mindoro as a part of Batangas that was then called Bonbon. In, 1950, through Republic Act No. 505, Mindoro island was divided into two provinces, Oriental Mindoro on the eastern part with Calapan as the capital and Occidental Mindoro on the western part making Mamburao as the capital.

As a former Japan OFW, I browse the web on Japan topics such as forums, music, news and other of interest that I could read and refresh my memories. Then I read an interesting news about Japan’s proclamation about an official mascot for their tourism industry. None other than the fictional character mascot created and popularized by Sanrio Company of Japan “Hello Kitty”. Since 1983, and because of children’s love and attraction for the mascot icon, it has held the position as Ambassador for UNICEF till present. But recently it was announced as the new Tourism Ambassador of Japan. Funny as some may think but it is a well deserved appointment as it has served its purpose of bringing joy to both young and old alike.
But for the Philippines, with us fast becoming as one of the top tourism destination in the globe, as announced and recognized by the new 7 wonders of the world, we haven’t had any mascot or national banner logo to promote tourism in the country. Sure we’ve had Pedro in Salakot for decades but it has a hundred or so versions. With the Philippines who has an abundant talent of web creators, designers, artists and cartoonist we could come up with one. Nationalistic idea ? Yes of course and that is where we have to start. Our government could spend some few bucks to support this drive. It could be on our air carriers and embassies with promotions on televisions, public and private offices as well as travel agencies.
It could be the one missing link in order to boost more the attraction of our tourism industry internationally. A lot of our fellow countrymen and women are continuously pumping and constantly promoting our country and we ourselves included, promoting the tourism industry and most of all the beauty of our country. Even expats and OFW’s are trying their best but we could not do this without the support of our own government. Sharing of ideas and the best contribution by our web designers, illustrators, cartoonists and many more are what we need and of course our own government. There are times that we need to be more nationalistic and strive hard for the best. There won’t be any prize waiting on our doorsteps most of the times but surely the Filipino people would benefit and the rest of us. Our country has much to offer for tourism and all we need is a booster.

This an amazing find and news. For the very first time Filipino Movie Entertainment have come up with an animated film of our very own. Children really do love to watch animation and that is a fact, because I do remember myself watching a lot and kids really sit down for hours watching animated TV series and sci-fi pics. Doing a film like this would not just be an animation film alone but would surely be an educational influence and at the same time a historical reference of the Philippines. The producers of this film have come up with a good idea and it is by far the best in animation on local productions. The very first Urduja film was released in 1942 and stars Fernando Poe Sr. and Luningning. It was also re-released in the late 70’s through LVN Pictures and stars Amalia Fuentes. Though the film was patterned after Disney’s Pocahantas and Mulan, it depicts the Filipinos talent on creating animation and putting it to work. This isn’t bad at all as it will be a start of a more creative filming’s in the movie industry and more educational local animation from the Philippines. Urduja is a legendary warrior princess and a recognized popular heroine from Pangasinan. Much of her story are included on Philippine textbooks, archived as one of the greatest heroines and she also have a statue at the Hundred islands National Park with the capitol building in Lingayen named after her as Urduja Palace.
The new Urduja animated film will soon be released in local cinemas and with fine local actors and actresses representing the voices of the characters in the film. Produced by Antonio Tuviera of APT Entertainment, who originally planned to release the animated film in 1977 as a TV series but backed out due to high production cost then moved it 3 decades later as a full length movie. Watch the animated film’s movie teaser below with the cast listed who performed the voice.
